Just back from the pub

So, it's late night random drunken Thursday posting time.

The end of an era is coming, the main instigator of Thursday night drinking, Dr Lachlan MacKinnon, is leaving us for pastures new (specifically the University of Abertay in Dundee). It's going to be strange to have Thursday nights either being spent in Dundee or not being spent in the pub at all. Although Friday mornings have not always been my favourite time as a result of spending most of my Thursday nights in the pub I'm going to miss shooting the breeze with the usual suspects at the Cale, it's been one of the constants of the last 7 years.

Change is definitely in the air right now. Claire will be coming back to Edinburgh to work for the Scottish Executive in just over a month. From my perspective this is definitely a good thing, as indeed anything that leads to the chance of me spending more time with Claire generally is. The other big change in the air is on the work front for me. After much wailing and moaning on my part about how I've been stagnating in the same job for the last 6 years it looks like I'm finally going to get the chance to move on and try something new. If all goes well, I'm going to be a Project Manager in the very near future. Whilst on one hand I have to perform many aspects of the PM job in my current role (mostly because 90% of the PMs I deal with seem to have better things to do than what they're supposed to be doing) I've never been directly responsible for sucess or failure of a project before and, not surprisingly, this scares me more than a little.

Slightly more light-hearted, I've finally decided that, 13 years after my last driving lesson, it's time for me to get behind the wheel again. If you really want to know, I'll bore you all with the details of what happened the last time I was in control of a car but suffice it to say my Dad and I are not made to be in the same car together if I'm behind the wheel.

Okay, that's probably enough for now. More soon!

End of pub era - that sucks...
End of Claire's London era - that's great!!! :-)
End of lousy job era - you can do it! Being a PM isn't that scary! *crosses fingers*
And, last but not least - I want to hear aaaall the stories of your driving :-)
I think it's a great decision to try it again. And when you're done and have your license, I'll come over and you can pick me up at the airport with your car :D
btw. what about your flat? didn't you want to sell it? Any news about that?
Will Claire and you move together? ;-)
*big huge hugs*

Yeah, it does suck a bit. In the grand scheme of things, however, Dundee isn't a million miles away so I'll probably end up there once or twice a month at least.

The driving story I'll save for another post, it's a little involved (at least it is the way I like to tell it) but I'll definitely be happy to come and pick you up at the airport once I've passed my test, any time you like :)

The flat...

Okay, so the new bathroom's in but I've got to get it redecorated before it's "finished". The whole selling plan is under review, I'm thinking about not selling and keeping it to rent out but using the equity to buy a larger place for me. I need to talk to some people to see if the figures add up though, if not I'll just sell but probably not immediately, I've got too much left to do right now.

Claire and I won't be moving in together, she says, and who can blame her, that she couldn't put up with my mess. She is planning to buy her own place as soon as she can after she moves back though. Hopefully in the same part of town as me. Having her as a neighbour would be nice :)

*great big hugs back*

We fear change. ;)

I hear that! :)

Trying to convince myself change is good, I really think that most of this should be.

Ah, change is the only constant in life. /cliche

:P

I'm so glad to hear that Claire is moving back. However... we need to either get you a maid or a mop&bucket. Which is it??

It would be a maid.

My problem is twofold, first of all I'm lazy and secondly I'm a packrat. This means I don't throw anything out, ever! In spite of how messy the place looks it really only needs a long weekend dedicated to cleaning to get it back in order, at which point the amount of effort needed to keep it that way would be much smaller. The only problem with that is I never actually want to put the time in, there's always something better I could be doing, like watching paint dry ;)
